Cristiano Ronaldo scored in El Clásico on Sunday, and he celebrated in just about the tamest way possible -- telling the crowd to calm down, as pictured above. It's an extremely standard celebration all around the world, performed on a weekly basis in just about every country on earth. But El Clásico is not just any game, and the LFP thinks of Barcelona fans as toddlers, so he might get suspended for it.
La Liga could punish Cristiano Ronaldo for the stupidest reason
The LFP president thinks of Barcelona supporters as mindless savages, apparently.
“We have to be careful with provocative gestures by a player when he scores a goal or with any other provocation or conduct that could incite violence among spectators,” said LFP president Javier Tebas. “It must be sanctioned, from a fine up to a suspension. We will look into it.”
There was, of course, no violence provoked by the celebration. It did not lead to Barcelona fans rushing the pitch, or throwing things, or attacking Madrid supporters. They just looked kind of sad for 30 seconds, then resumed cheering for their team, as per usual.
If the Real Madrid star actually gets punished for this, we might as well outlaw celebrating anything.
