Backheel Breakfast: Injury bug bites Bayern Munich again

Not only did they miss four straight penalties on Tuesday, they also lost two of their best players.

Bayern Munich bounced back from a bad defeat at Porto last week, crushing them en route to a comfortable aggregate victory, but their season has taken a serious downturn. They lost to Borussia Dortmund on penalties in the DFB-Pokal on Tuesday, missing all four penalties and picking up two injuries in the process.

One, to Arjen Robben, will take him out for the season. He tore his calf and won’t be able to recover in time for even the Champions League final. The other was to Robert Lewandowski, who picked up a concussion, broken jaw and broken nose. He wants to play against Barcelona.

Uh, Robert, you can’t wear a mask to protect a broken jaw and a brain injury. But your courage is admirable!
