Barcelona predictably destroy La Liga’s worst team

Sorry, Córdoba, have fun in the Segunda.

Meet Córdoba CF. They’re really bad. Anything but a win in today’s game against Barcelona would have seen them mathematically relegated to the Segunda with nearly a full month left in the season, and they unsurprisingly failed to achieve that result. Instead, they lost. By a lot.

Barca put together their most dominant performance of the season on Saturday, winning 8-0, right off the back of their 6-0 decimation of Getafe earlier in the week. Their goals weren’t quite the same quality, but they didn’t need to be, and they didn’t even score their first goal until the 42nd minute. From there, Cordoba crumbled, letting in one more before halftime, one just a minute into the second half and five more after that.

Lionel Messi scored his 404th and 405th goals on the night, then was nice enough to let Neymar take a late penalty while on a hat trick. Ivan Rakitic and Gerard Pique scored a goal apiece, while Suarez grabbed three from open play.

Here’s how easy it was for Suarez to complete his hatty.

The pressure now shifts to Real Madrid, who need to win yet again to stay within one game of Barcelona for the La Liga title. They're facing a tough opponent in Sevilla, who are fighting to finish top four.

Córdoba CF: Carlos, Fraga, Pantic, Lopez, Crespo (Gunino 46'), Deivid, Krhin, Fidel, Luso (Ekeng 58'), Bebe (Vico 62'), Andone

Goals: None

Barcelona: Bravo, Alba, Mascherano (Mathieu 62’), Pique, Alves, Busquets, Rakitic (Pedro 69’), Iniesta (Xavi 61’), Neymar, Messi, Suarez

Goals: Rakitic (42’), Suarez (45’, 53’, 88’), Messi (46’, 80’), Pique (65’), Neymar (penalty 85’)
