Fenerbahce gets 4 red cards in 12 minutes, ref spares them clear 5th

No one wants to see an auto-forfeit, after all.

What’s better than a team getting four red cards in 12 minutes? When that same team gets away with a fifth red card because the referee doesn’t want to call the game an automatic forfeit.

That’s what would have happened to Fenerbahce in their Turkish Super Lig match against Istanbul Basaksehir on Monday, if the referee had given goalkeeper Volkan Demirel a straight red for an awful two-footed hack at an opponent in the dying minutes.

Instead, he sympathetically showed Demirel a yellow.

The four actual reds that were given out were for a kick-out from behind, a handball off the line, arguing about the handball off the line in an abusive manner and kicking a dude in the head. It’s like the perfect set of red cards.
