Cristiano Ronaldo penalty stopped by spectacular save

Trailing 2-0 to Valencia, Real Madrid were desperate to come back and win to keep pace with Barcelona in the La Liga title race. Right at the end of the first half, it looked like they would get a way back in to the match when Gareth Bale was brought down in the box, giving Cristiano Ronaldo a chance to convert a penalty.

Diego Alves had other ideas.

That was an absolutely tremendous save, and extended Alves' record for most penalty saves in La Liga history with 16. Alves has been a huge part of Valencia's success this season, and may have just guaranteed his side a top four place in La Liga, and knocked Real Madrid out of the title hunt in the process -- just as long as Valencia can hold this lead.
