The United States were granted a gift with a great draw in the Under-20 World Cup, but they almost failed to take advantage of it in their first match. They fell behind early against Myanmar and barely scraped a 2-1 win. Their competition is theoretically a bit better on Tuesday, and this time the opponent will have the home crowd behind them.
New Zealand vs. USA live stream: Time, TV schedule and how to watch the Under-20 World Cup online
The United States Under-20s have three points in the bag and could be on the path to winning their group if they grab another three on Tuesday.

New Zealand did well in their opener, drawing against Ukraine. That’s a good result for the U.S., who will feel like they can win Group A thanks to that result, though a match against the Group C or D third-placed team won’t be a walk in the park. In any event, it’ll beat the alternatives, so a win in this match would be extremely helpful.
Arsenal starlet Gedion Zelalem could get his first start in this game. He started on the bench against Myanmar and replaced Joel Soñora in the 55th minute. If Zelalem does start, it’s not clear if it’ll be on the wing or as a central midfielder.
Key player -- Maki Tall's replacement (United States)
Tall was both the scorer of the Americans’ first goal on Saturday and their best attacking player overall. He’s going to miss the rest of the tournament with an injury, and whoever comes in is going to have a tough time replacing his output.
That said, the U.S. does have some good attacking options on their bench that can fill in for Tall. Both Bradford Jamieson IV and Tommy Thompson have turned in some impressive performances against grown adults in MLS and shouldn’t be phased by the Under-20 World Cup at all. One of them will start, and whoever it is will have to gain some chemistry with Jordan Allen and Rubio Rubin quickly.
