Lady Andrade guides Colombia to biggest upset in Women’s World Cup history

Matt Kryger-USA TODAY Sports

Before Saturday, Colombia forward Lady Andrade was globally notable for two things: having a baller name and punching Abby Wambach in the face. After her performance against France in the World Cup, a few more people might know her for being excellent at soccer.

She scored the winner against Les Bleus, finishing off this move in the first half to fire Colombia to a lead.

And it wasn't just the goal -- she showed off her skills all game, regularly making France's defenders look bad.

Colombia went on to score another goal in stoppage time after France over-committed in an attempt to net an equalizer, Catalina Usme capitalized, sealing her team’s 2-0 win.

By FIFA ranking, this was the biggest upset in the history of the Women's World Cup. France is ranked 3rd in the world, while Colombia is ranked No. 28. Though they've played regularly in the Olympics, Women's World Cup and Copa America, Colombia had yet to record a major upset against a top opponent before this game, and should have lost their opener to Mexico. They're the second-best team in South America, but this is, truly, the biggest upset in the history of this tournament.
