The United States took a bit of a tumultuous road to this stage, but they’ve managed to progress to the quarterfinals of the Under-20 World Cup. They lost to Panama in qualifying, fell behind against Myanmar in their opener, lost Maki Tall to injury and got beaten decisively by Ukraine, but they’ll face Serbia for a spot in the semifinal on Sunday.

One of the USMNT’s most experienced players, Rubio Rubin, was their hero in the Round of 16 against Colombia. The Eredivisie regular, with three senior caps to his name, scored the only goal in their 1-0 win in that round. Between Kellyn Acosta at defensive midfield, the central defense pair of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Matt Miazga, and goalkeeper Zack Steffen behind them, the U.S. have been solid defensively in this tournament.
Serbia, who won their group, might be the toughest test yet for the United States. Attackers Andrija Živković and Ivan Šaponjić are among Europe's top prospects and both have scored in this tournament. However, their loss against Uruguay and regular time draw against Hungary indicate that they are beatable.
