Germany and Serbia kick off their Under-21 European Championship against each other on Wednesday, with the Germans big favorites to win their group. They’re loaded with young stars who have already played for the senior national team, and a number of their top talents are first choice for big clubs, even if they haven’t cracked Die Mannschaft’s senior side yet.

Expect the Germans to show off just how good they are.

The Serbians won’t be pushovers, but in a tournament with no weak teams, they are among the least likely to do damage to the favorites. They are helped by the fact that they are one of the oldest teams in the tournament -- they have 13 players who are 23 and no teenagers.
Serbia split up their young stars this summer, sending some of their top talent to the Under-20 World Cup in New Zealand. This is a strong side, and a mostly older one for that reason, but some top young players are missing. Miloš Jojić of Borussia Dortmund and Filip Đuričić of Benfica are the star men to keep an eye on. Germany have an incredible array of talent, and their most notable player is one of this tournament's youngest. Max Meyer is just 19, but he's already played for the senior squad and could be one of the U-21 Euros' biggest stars.
