France were supposed to sail through their 2015 Women’s World Cup group, but they’re in a tough predicament against Mexico on Wednesday. They need to win to ensure they go through to the next round, and it’s possible that they could fail to finish on top of the group even if they do.

Les Bleus need to bounce back from a shocking defeat and lay a beating on El Tri.

Les Bleus were on the wrong end of the biggest upset in Women’s World Cup history in their last game, falling 2-0 to Colombia. Because of that result, the Cafeteros will finish on top of the group if they can beat England in their final game. If that match ends in a draw or England wins, France can jump both of them and get back on top, setting up an easy Round of 16 game before a likely quarterfinal match against Germany.
Thinking Colombia would be a less than formidable opponent, France took the opportunity to rest some of their top players in their last game. Élodie Thomis, Amandine Henry and Sabrina Delannoy all sat out, and it backfired spectacularly.
France now faces a tough decision -- do they rotate to get some more players rest before the knockout stage, or do they play their best 11 players against Mexico? Their second XI should be able to beat El Tri, but this Mexico side will be fighting hard for a knockout stage place.
