Mexico eliminated from Copa America
El Tri went into their final group stage game in good position and blew it.

A draw might have been good enough to send Mexico through to the knockout stage pending other results, while a win would have guaranteed them a quarterfinal place. Ecuador had lost both of their matches coming into this game, and will now have to wait and see what happens in other groups to see if they progress.
It's likely Miguel Herrera learned very little from these three games, except that Mexico's player pool doesn't look terribly deep at the moment. This is a squad filled with players who could be added to the main squad in case of injuries and not embarrass themselves, but attacking midfielder "Tecatito" Jesus Corona is the only player who did anything to warrant consideration for Mexico's first World Cup qualifiers. Striker Raul Jimenez, who was recently a starter for the main squad, looked like a man who'd spent most of his season riding the bench. He'll need to find a good move away from Atletico Madrid to get back into Herrera's side.
The Mexico A-team will start preparation for the Gold Cup soon. They play a friendly against Costa Rica on June 27 and kick off the tournament against Cuba on July 9.
