    Arsenal beat Chelsea 1-0 on Ox stunner

    Arsenal are the FA Community Shield winners and Arsene Wenger has finally gotten one over on Jose Mourinho, as his Gunners beat Chelsea, 1-0, thanks to a gorgeous goal from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

    In a match intended for spectacle and glory, we didn’t really see a ton of it -- Chelsea were a bit more pragmatic than normal, seemingly wanting to avoid injuries to key players in a relatively meaningless match, and Arsenal looking a little rusty and discombobulated with an ineffective Theo Walcott at striker. There was plenty of action, but by and large much of it wasn’t terribly effective.

    Diego Costa is out for Chelsea with what Jose Mourinho is describing as a “discomfort in his hamstring.” Given Costa’s hamstring issues over the past few seasons, treating that with caution is a wise move -- after all, why risk the long-term health of your best striker in a match that’s essentially a friendly?

    That should add to the excitement and spectacle of England’s curtain-raiser, and a match like this -- with the spectacle and the rivalry and the importance of these two teams in England -- lends us an excellent chance to see how the clubs and specific players in the teams are faring in their preparations for the season to come.
