La Liga might have two teams with resources that dwarf the rest of the league, but Spain’s second tier has grown to be extremely competitive in recent years. Two of that group’s best teams, Atlético Madrid and Sevilla, face off on Sunday.

Atléti beat the top two to a league title a couple of seasons ago, and will like their chances of mounting a challenge again after a productive transfer window. Between Real Madrid having to settle for Rafa Benitez as coach and Barcelona dealing with a transfer ban, the Rojiblancos are not going to settle for third place.

They got their season off to a solid start in Week 1, getting all three points against Las Palmas. Their new pieces didn’t click perfectly, though, and they will have been a bit disappointed to only win by one goal.

Sevilla aren't off to the best start this year. They lost the UEFA Super Cup to Barcelona despite a valiant comeback effort, then drew Málaga 0-0 in their opener. Like Atléti, they made a lot of changes this summer and are still trying to get their new pieces working together.

Key player — Ever Banega

The Argentine playmaker runs the show from the center of the pitch for Sevilla. He had a brilliant campaign last season and Sevilla will be hoping he can be at his best for a second year in a row — something that hasn’t really happened during his tumultuous career.

Key matchup — Sevilla's CBs vs. Antoine Griezmann

Atléti’s star forward does a lot of running between the midfield and defensive lines, and likes to drift wide too. It’ll be some extra work to keep an eye on him and make sure he doesn’t find dangerous spaces.
