Following Lucas Alario’s late first half goal, Argentina Primera A superpower River Plate dominated Mexico’s UANL Tigres in the second half to win 3-0 and capture the 2015 Copa Libertadores.

The Argentine giants were simply too much for Tigres.

The second goal came off a penalty, as Carlos Sanchez coolly converted from the spot in the 75th minute.

— Andrew Jerell Jones (@sluggahjells) August 6, 2015 It’s a remarkable tournament for the club, who just four years ago had been relegated out of the Argentine first division. Now they lay claim to their third South American club championship, tied for the fifth most in the history of the Copa Libertadores. Tigres should be proud of what they accomplished -- they were just the third Mexican team to ever reach the final, and held a very good River side to a 0-0 standstill in the first leg. When it came to playing at El Monumental, however, they couldn’t quite finish the job.
Congratulations, River Plate. This is a day and an accomplishment to savor. Your rise back to the elite of South American club football is complete.
