While not one of the traditional rivalries in England, Arsenal and West Ham squaring off in a North-versus-East battle for London supremacy is often a contentious and heated affair. While their rivalries with Tottenham and Chelsea bring more passion and glamour, Arsenal’s matches with West Ham pit them against a team always eager for a fight, and Arsene Wenger will have to prepare his side for exactly that.
Arsenal vs. West Ham 2015: Start time, TV schedule and live stream

That’s going to be even more true in this match than it normally is, with West Ham eager to turn things around after a disappointing Europa League knockout to tiny Romanian side Astra Giurgiu. Slaven Bilic and his new team have high hopes for the coming Premier League season, and that European setback is only going to make them all the hungrier to achieve them. Nothing would make a better opening statement for their campaign than a shocking win over Arsenal at the Emirates, and that’s exactly what West Ham will be looking for.
New player to watch -- Dimitri Payet (West Ham)
Payet was West Ham’s big “coup” signing of the summer, whisking him away from the troubles of Olympique Marseille and into the loving embrace of Slaven Bilic and the Boleyn Ground faithful. The versatile and creative attacker replaced Stewart Downing and gives the Hammers a huge upgrade in quality either out wide or behind the strikers, depending on where Bilic decides to station the Frenchman. It might take Payet a match or two to get used to the faster speed of the Premier League compared to Ligue 1, though, and this match will be a stern test to see how ready he is for the big stage.
Key Matchup -- Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal) vs. Aaron Cresswell (West Ham)
Oxlade-Chamberlain was the star of the show for Arsenal in the Community Shield last weekend, scoring the only goal of the match and looking primed for a huge breakout in an impressive individual performance. If he can replicate that quality against West Ham, he could get more than just the one goal -- especially since Cresswell is no Cesar Azpilicueta. Still, the 25-year-old left back has moments of real quality; if he can channel those moments into a full match, he could be a huge asset for his team today by shutting Ox down.
Arsenal injuries and suspensions
Out: Jack Wilshere (ankle), Tomas Rosicky (knee), Danny Welbeck (knee) In doubt: none
West Ham injuries and suspensions
Out: Enner Valencia (knee), Andy Carroll (knee) In doubt: Joey O’Brien (knock), Pedro Obiang (muscle strain), Winston Reid (knock)
Wilshere’s injury woes went from bad to worse when a scan found a hairline fracture in his ankle, costing him even more playing time after another injury-plagued season last year. West Ham, on the other hand, will be missing Valencia’s skill up top in a big way, but also have three potentially important players in defense and midfield who may or may not play. Whether O’Brien, Reid and Obiang can go or not could have a big impact on this match.
