Cristiano Ronaldo scored ANOTHER hat trick, this time in Champions League

Ronnie just can’t stop scoring.

Fresh from having scored five goals in Real Madrid's demolition of Espanyol on the weekend, Cristiano Ronaldo has continued his prolific start to the new season by netting a hat trick in his side's 4-0 thrashing of Shakhtar Donetsk on the opening Champions League matchday.

The Portuguese winger is officially the first player in history to score 80 career goals in the tournament, and has moved him within two of overtaking Raúl at the top of Real Madrid’s all-time goalscoring charts. It took the Spaniard 741 games to score his 323 goals; Ronaldo’s achieved it in less than half the time. It’s a quite remarkable achievement.

Two of Ronaldo’s goals came from the penalty spot: the first having sufficient power and perfect placement to rocket beyond the sprawling goalkeeper; the second sending him the wrong way altogether. He sealed the hat trick in open play, heading home after a rebound on a Marcelo shot bounced conveniently up to head height.
