Manchester United’s Alex Ferguson: ‘We agreed no player should be paid more than me’

Alex Ferguson is probably the greatest manager of all time, and it turns out he made sure he was paid like it. When Wayne Rooney got his new contract with Manchester United, Fergie didn’t think it was fair that any player made significantly more than he did, so he came up with a proposal: a contract that guaranteed he’d make more than any player.

The Glazer family agreed. “It was simple. We just agreed that no player should be paid more than me. We agreed in less time than it takes to read the previous sentence.”

So, yeah, Fergie’s crazy rich and deservedly so.
