The Premier League had the good sense to put on a show on Saturday, with every game featuring tons of action. England fans can breathe a sigh of relief, with Wayne Rooney and Harry Kane finally getting off the mark after slow starts to the season. And Manchester City fans can shift into full panic mode after getting downright throttled by Spurs, of all teams.
Alexis Sanchez storms back to life with a hat trick for Arsenal
Arsenal fans, he’s back! Plus the end of the most famous goal drought in England, Mark Clattenberg being very bad and every game being extremely lit.

Saturday’s scores
Send the Clattenberg crew to non-league
The referees didn’t exactly decide the outcome of the early game. Spurs were better than City ...
xG map for #COYS-#MCFC. Spurs continue to be extremely stingy with big chances, and today they finished theirs. pic.twitter.com/k2Etg4Zt39
— Michael Caley (@MC_of_A) September 26, 2015 ... but we have to mention the referees who were horrible. Mark Clattenberg showed Martin Demichelis a yellow card for dissent at halftime, but wouldn't give him a second yellow for a dangerous tackle on the edge of the box. City's opener and two of Tottenham's goals were very clearly offside. On the equalizer, Kyle Walker was probably three steps off. Clattenberg, Simon Beck and Jake Collin need to spend some time outside of the Premier League.
Alberto Moreno looks like a chipmunk
Liverpool and Aston Villa are both dumb teams with goal-scorers and bad defenses. Liverpool is a little better than Villa. You knew all of that. What you might not know is that this side-by-side photo of Alberto Moreno and a chipmunk exists.
Mixed bag of a half. Gonna try to stick to positives & that nobody is more awesome or chipmunky than Alberto Moreno. pic.twitter.com/YEAED4sAlt
— Liverpool Offside (@LFCOffside) September 26, 2015 Wayne Rooney scored! He really scored!
He did it entirely on accident, merely by being a solid object, but he made the ball goal in the back of the net! His goal-scoring drought ended at exactly 999 minutes.
Oh, you thought Alexis Sanchez was tired?
Arsene Wenger insinuated as much this week. He admitted he might have played Sanchez too soon after his Copa America triumph. But he spit in the face of the prevailing narrative with a hat trick, capped off with a goal that made our Arsenal blog react like this.

— The Short Fuse (@TheShortFuse) September 26, 2015 ALEXIS ABSOLUTELY GHOSTS HIS MAN, AND FINDS THE NET FROM 25, HAVE A BIT OF THAT
— The Short Fuse (@TheShortFuse) September 26, 2015 HE'S BAAAAAAACKKKKKKKKKK
— The Short Fuse (@TheShortFuse) September 26, 2015 And really, his performance was worthy of that reaction.
So much for Alexis being tired and devoid of confidence.
Newcastle fans are losing patience with Steve McClaren
What a great first 75 minutes from the Magpies. Then the last 15 minutes happened.
Disappointing. Guess we’re back to looking for "encouraging signs" and "positive progress". #NUFC
— ComingHomeNewcastle (@ComingHomeNUFC) September 26, 2015 Fortunately, those are the two measures by which teams are adjudged at the end of the season. #NUFC
— ComingHomeNewcastle (@ComingHomeNUFC) September 26, 2015 There’s no shame in drawing Chelsea, but the way they did it was extremely disappointing, and it’s part of a pattern. McClaren’s team has yet to put together a complete performance culminating in a win.
Y’all, look at those scores!
If you didn’t catch the games, set your DVR and make sure you record Match of the Day. It’s appointment viewing after a day with 35 goals in eight games. There wasn’t a single game with fewer than three goals. The Premier League is having a very fun season.
