Liverpool wins chaotic 9-goal match with 95th minute miracle scramble

Games don’t get any sillier than this one.

Liverpool spent most of Saturday thinking they were going to post another disappointing result. They went down 3-1 to Norwich City, eventually came back to take the lead, but gave up a stoppage time equalizer. And then Adam Lallana did this.

That winner was just the cherry on top of one of the most ridiculous games in the history of the Premier League. It wasn’t even a wild, wide-open game. The shot stats, via ESPN FC, are completely normal.

This is the kind of game you'd expect to finish 2-1 or so. But the defending was so bad that, when the game ended, the NBC studio crew could hardly talk about the game. They were just laughing, and justifiably so. Norwich got their third goal when Alberto Moreno got away with committing a foul worthy of a penalty, then kicked Steven Naismith a second time to make sure the referee got the decision right. Liverpool took the lead in the first place thanks to Norwich captain Russell Martin playing a perfect through ball for James Milner. It's possible that this was the most poorly played game in the Premier League era.

But of course, there’s nothing wrong with that. The beneficiaries of awful soccer are the fans, who got treated to nine goals and the best finish you’ll see anywhere in the world this season.
