Liverpool have been wildly erratic since Jürgen Klopp arrived in October, veering from astonishingly good victories over title contenders to shipping four goals against relegation strugglers. There's yet to be any real consistency in their performances, and though they ostensibly head into Saturday's FA Cup fourth-round clash with West Ham United on the back of three victories, only their 3-0 win at home to fourth-tier outfit Exeter City was remotely comfortable.

West Ham will be hoping to record their third win over Liverpool this season when they travel to Anfield for Saturday’s FA Cup fourth-round tie.

That will surely mean West Ham will be confident of repeating the comfortable 3-0 win they recorded on their last visit to Anfield in August. The Hammers are enjoying an excellent season under Slaven Bilić, with performances having been every bit as entertaining as results have been good. Their squad is undoubtedly the envy of much of the Premier League’s mid-table, and they may well fancy their chances of making a deep FA Cup run this year.
Key player: Dimitri Payet (West Ham United)
Dimitri Payet is quite possibly the Premier League signing of the season, with the Frenchman having taken the division by storm since joining from Marseille in the summer. His magnificent eye for a pass has been matched by a neat goal-scoring touch, and he’s the man Klopp will be most anxious about shutting out of the game. Unfortunately for the German tactician, that’s rather easier said than done.
Recent history
West Ham have won both of their league games against Liverpool this season without conceding a single goal, the second of which was a 2-0 victory at Upton Park earlier this month. They’ve won three of their last four games against the Merseysiders in total, with Liverpool winning the other. These sides haven’t met in the FA Cup since the 2006 final, when a last-gasp Steven Gerrard wonder strike took he game into extra time and penalties, where Liverpool won 3-1.
Liverpool injuries and suspensions
Out: Divock Origi, Danny Ings, Joe Gomez (knee); Philippe Coutinho, Martin Škrtel (hamstring); Daniel Sturridge (thigh). In doubt: None.
West Ham United injuries and suspensions
Out: Manuel Lanzini, Diafra Sakho (thigh); Andy Carroll (hamstring); Sam Byram (ineligible). In doubt: None.
Liverpool have no fresh injury problems, meaning they’ll still be without first-team regulars in defender Škrtel and attackers Coutinho and Sturridge. Meanwhile, their visitors still have attackers Lanzini, Carroll and Sakho on the injury table, while recent signing, full-back Byram, is cup-tied.
