After such a strong start to the season, Manchester City have been starting to hit some speed bumps. An injury to key playmaker Kevin De Bruyne saw their league form take a dip, with a loss and a draw in their last two matches, and even with him back in the side, City lost heavily in the Champions League to the former team of manager Pep Guardiola, Barcelona. They need a win just to stop the bleeding at this point, and they'll be eager to get that win in this match against Southampton.

Southampton themselves have had frequent struggles this season, but of late their form has stabilized and they've started to look more like the team that impressed so many over the last few seasons. They're still not quite a major threat to the top teams in the league quite yet -- their recent wins have been over teams at the bottom of the table and they could only draw with a Leicester City team that's been firmly mid-table this year -- but they are worth taking seriously for a team like Manchester City for fear of becoming a statement result.
