It’s time for more Champions League action, and with AS Monaco hosting Tottenham Hotspur for a high-stakes match that could have some major impacts on how Group E plays out.
Monaco vs. Tottenham Hotspur 2016: Start time, live stream, TV schedule, and 3 things to know
The surprise group leaders need to put in a strong showing at home to keep a disappointed third-place team at bay.
Monaco are the surprise leaders of the group two-thirds of the way through it, with eight points in four matches and an undefeated record. Spurs, on the other hand, have struggled much more than expected, with only four points in the group — including a loss to Monaco at White Hart Lane.
This time Monaco are coming into the match with home-field advantage on their side, and the Stade Louis will be loud and rocking as they try to push their team to victory. A win for Monaco would see them secure not just passage to the Champions League knockout rounds, but first place in the group as well — a draw would still see them through as well with Spurs would be unable to catch them any longer, but you know they’d much, much prefer a win.

Three big things to know
- Not only are Monaco on top of Group E, they’re in fantastic overall form as well. They’ve risen to second place in Ligue 1, ahead of Paris Saint-Germain on goal differential, and their free-scoring ways have seen them score 13 more goals than anyone else in France. It’s been more than a month since they’ve lost a match, and with wins in four of their last five all-competitions matches and three straight clean sheets, they’re not going to willingly slow down any time soon.
- On the flipside, Tottenham just earned their first win in any competition in six weeks this past Saturday. A brutal run of injuries knocked the London club all out of sorts, and while they’re getting healthier at last, they still aren’t exactly back in form. They’ll have to take a big, big step up if they’re going to win this match, and whether or not they’re even capable of taking that step is a matter of significant debate.
- One of the most fun parts of Monaco’s rise this season has been watching Falcao get back to being Falcao again. After years of dealing with serious injuries, Falcao is healthy and scoring goals in bunches again. He’s scored five goals in the last five matches, including a brace in his last Champions League outing against CSKA Moscow. Watching him do his thing in fine form is a joy, and that will be no different in this match.
