Arsenal and Everton are set for some midweek action in the Premier League, and while midweek fixtures can often be a bit awkward in the EPL, one shouldn’t expect things to go down quietly or easily at Goodison Park. Both teams are in serious need of a win, and that will add an edge of intensity and excitement to a match that was already likely to have plenty of both.

These are teams that have had a number of close-fought and highly exciting matches in recent years, and the fact that Everton haven’t beaten Arsenal since 2014 will do nothing to dampen the energy of the occasion. While they’re clubs seen as being on very different tiers of talent and ability, the Gunners and Toffees rarely disappoint and are never boring when they get together, making this a match that will have a very high potential of surprising and amazing anyone who watches. Something bizarre or amazing or hilarious is going to happen, the only question is what it winds up being.

TV: NBCSN (U.S.), BT Sport 1 (U.K.)

Online: NBC Sports Live (U.S.), BT Sport Live Streaming (U.K.)

Match Date/Time: Tuesday, 2:45 p.m. ET, 7:45 p.m. local

Venue: Goodison Park, Liverpool, England

Three big things to know

  1. Arsenal have finally seemed to stabilize and improve their form, and that’s got them sitting just three points behind Chelsea for the EPL lead. Now, there’s no guarantee of any kind that Chelsea will drop points and allow Arsenal to close that gap, but as long as the Gunners can keep their momentum going and continue piling up wins, they can keep a lot of pressure on the league leaders and hope that some of that pressure keeps them from being at their very best.
  2. Of course, Everton won’t be too eager to let Arsenal keep that momentum going, and will be trying to do everything they can to use their home-field advantage to their, well, advantage. With so many crucial Arsenal players either out or slowed by injury and their own team finally getting healthy again, this could be a great opportunity for Romelu Lukaku and company to get a big, statement win and reestablish themselves back on the radar as a team that can be a big threat in the EPL.
  3. To do that, though, Everton will have to find a way to win for the first time in six weeks, a run of futility that may be tough to overcome. They’ve looked decidedly mediocre even against some of the weaker teams in the EPL of late, showing some serious flaws in their possession game and defensive setup that Arsenal should be able to exploit quite ruthlessly if given the chance — and if anything is certain, it’s that Arsenal will not let those chances slip by easily.
