Manchester United are making a trip to Goodison Park to face Everton, and there’s every chance that this match winds up being more important and impactful than most matches between these two teams have been in recent years — and thus be all the more entertaining for it.
Manchester United vs. Everton 2016: Start time, TV schedule, live stream, and 3 things to know
Everton need a win to bolster their form, which would also see them leapfrog United in the standings.

Neither team is happy with their form or standing in the Premier League table right now, with one point separating United and Everton in seventh and eighth place, respectively. Both teams had designs on challenging in the top four or even higher, but that hasn’t really happened for them of late. A win in this match could be a step in the right direction to turning their struggles around, though, and give them a chance to set themselves up for a run towards the Champions League places in the holiday season. At worst, a win would keep them from falling further behind those top four teams, and that’s worth a fair bit in and of itself.

Three big things to know
- Everton started out the season as one of the rising darlings of the EPL, but their form has taken a decided turn for the worse of late. They have a three-match winless run, and just one win in their last nine, form that can’t exactly be described as scintillating. That said, they’ve been solid enough at home, only losing once at Goodison Park all season, giving Toffees fans some hope that they can get something out of a tough match.
- Speaking of form, while Manchester United haven’t lost in a month, they do have a recent pattern of form that’s rather concerning. They haven’t strung together two wins since late September, and given their recent pattern of trading big wins and disappointing draws, United fans would be right to be concerned about dropping points in this match — their last match was a 4-1 League Cup triumph over West Ham.
- Of course, neither team is particularly healthy. United have three key defenders out, plus Wayne Rooney is suspended. Everton’s own injuries aren’t at all insignificant — Muhamed Besic and James McCarthy are a big part of their midfield, and will be sorely missed in a match like this, where their energy and intensity would be very beneficial. Despite those midfield absences, though, Everton could get a big leg up if their attack spearheaded by Romelu Lukaku can take advantage of United’s defensive injuries.
