Chinese Super League bags their biggest star signing yet
Jackson Martínez’s arrival is the latest sign that Chinese soccer is not screwing around.

Chinese soccer is no longer a joke. After years of overpaying washed up players and failing to actually fulfill their agreements, some of the Chinese Super League’s teams have big time investment now, and Guangzhou Evergrande made the country’s biggest ever signing on Tuesday, inking Jackson Martínez.
Martínez had interest from all over Europe this summer, eventually landing at Atlético Madrid. He’s struggled at Atléti, but they would have had no problem offloading him to a fairly big team for a solid fee this summer. Instead, Martínez has chosen to go to China, and Atléti made a profit too.
At Guangzhou, Martínez will be hooking up with Brazilians Paulinho, Alan Carvalho and Ricardo Goulart, as well as South Korea star Kim Young-gwon and Chinese legend Zheng Zhi. Most of the rest of the squad has been capped recently by the Chinese national team.
