Manchester United will look to pull off a dramatic comeback in front of their own supporters on Thursday, as they welcome their old rivals Liverpool to Old Trafford for the second leg of their Europa League round of 16 tie. Louis van Gaal's side were comprehensively outplayed in the reverse fixture a week ago, and now need to score at least twice if they're to stand any chance of progressing. A team that have spent much of the season playing rather cautious, risk-averse football are now going to be forced onto the front foot against one of their most fierce opponents. There could well be fireworks.

Beyond just local pride, there’s a practical reason both of these teams will be desperate to win this tie. The winner of the Europa League now gets entered into the following year’s Champions League. With both United and Liverpool looking unlikely to finish in the top four of their domestic division, winning this tournament could well be the only way they can book their place in the big time next season.
