Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says hair-pulling only allowed in ‘sex masochism’

Good to know.

In his interview with Sky Sports following Manchester United’s 1-1 draw against Leicester City, Louis van Gaal was asked about an incident in the game where Leicester’s Robert Huth grabbed United player Marouane Fellaini’s hair. Fellaini responded with an elbow to the face. Van Gaal called it a normal human reaction, said that hair-pulling is only permissible in “sex masochism” and pulled the reporter’s hair to demonstrate

“When you see what Huth is doing to Fellaini, that’s a penalty,” said van Gaal. “Shall I grab you by your hair? What is your reaction when I grab your hair? Your hair is shorter than Fellaini but when I do that, what are you doing then? It’s a reaction ... Every human being who is grabbed by the hair, only with sex masochism, then it is allowed but not in other situations.”

Of note: Geoff Shreeves did not react to van Gaal pulling his hair by elbowing the Manchester United manager in the face.
