Kudo had blood coming from his mouth and appeared at least dazed if not briefly unconscious. Players on the field immediately called for medical attention. Despite how bad the incident appeared, Kudo was able to stand up before riding on a cart off the field. According to the Whitecaps, Kudo was taken to a hospital for further evaluation and was “alert and aware.”
There wasn’t much Kudo could have done to avoid the contact and it was only made worse as Lampson turned to secure the ball and Kudo ended taking the brunt of the hit. Based on how violent the hit appeared, it’s remarkable he was able to stand on the field and didn’t suffer a very serious injury.
