Columbus Crew’s leading scorer says their top playmaker is ‘selfish’ and ‘not a teammate’
Kei Kamara didn’t hold back when he talked about Federico Higuain on Saturday.

On Saturday, Columbus Crew drew Montreal Impact 4-4 after a bizarre penalty incident. Striker Kei Kamara had two goals in the game and wanted to take a penalty the Crew had won. Federico Higuain insisted that he take the penalty instead, grabbed the ball from Kamara, and scored. But the incident marked a strange turning point in the game -- it was 4-1 after Higuain scored, and then Montreal scored three unanswered.
After the game, Kamara openly put his teammate on blast. “That’s selfishness. That’s not a teammate,” he said about the penalty kick incident, before going on to insist that they had no connection on the pitch and Higuain didn’t look to set him up for goals.
“I haven’t really had to depend on Pipa at all,” Kamara said about Higuain. “How long have I been here? How many goals have I scored? How many have come from his assists? One, maybe two. I don’t depend on him. I depend on Ethan [Finlay], I depend on my outside backs to pass me balls.”
“I admire Kaká and Larin connecting,” Kamara continued. “I admire Piatti and Drogba connecting. How many times have me and [Higuain] connected? It hasn’t been [there]. But I haven’t had to worry about it because I’m scoring goals. But when it comes to something like [the penalty kick], I really have to get mad about it and I’m really upset ... to me and to the relationship to believe in my number 10, my playmaker, there is none. I never have to worry about it.”
Have you ever seen a star player attack his fellow star teammate so openly in the middle of the season?
