The United States men’s national team got the job done in their last game, defeating Costa Rica 4-0 to bounce back from a defeat against Colombia. Thanks to results elsewhere, they only need a draw against Paraguay on Saturday to ensure that they’ll be headed to the Copa América quarterfinals, assuming the Ticos don’t blow out Colombia by seven goals.

The USMNT only needs a draw, while Colombia are already through. Paraguay and Costa Rica both need wins and help.

However, Jürgen Klinsmann isn’t thinking like that, telling media on Friday that his team is treating this game like a must-win. If they do win and Costa Rica defeats Colombia, the USMNT will go through in first place, potentially avoiding Brazil.
Colombia has already advanced to the knockout round. Paraguay and Costa Rica both need a win in their game and help from their opponents. In Paraguay’s case, they know they’ll go through as long as they win, plus Costa Rica fails to win or fails to make up the difference in goals in their victory. Costa Rica’s goal differential is currently six worse than the USMNT and three worse than Paraguay, so the Ticos are in a dire situation.
