Germany enter their match against Ukraine to start off their Euro 2016 campaign as a team that was an oft-mentioned favorite during the buildup to the tournament, as the defending World Cup champions often are when they're playing in the European Championship. But after losing soundly to Slovakia on German soil and not exactly impressing in a win over Hungary, some are starting to question just how ready Germany are for this tournament.

That means that Germany’s leaders on the pitch are going to have to step up and be at their best no matter what, and that will have to start against a Ukraine side that always plays tough and look to spoil the day for their opponents. Players like Thomas Müller, Manuel Neuer and Mesut Özil will need to do everything they can to get their teammates fired up and playing at the level they’re capable of.
This is the best international side in the world, after all. The defending World Cup champs qualified for the Euros with hardly a bump in the road. They haven’t looked like that side of late, but now that the matches have real stakes again, we could see them become the Germany of old.
