Argentina soccer fans have a unique passion and tradition that sets them apart

For this episode of Fan Stories, we are focusing on Argentina soccer and their dedicated fan base that helps make soccer the biggest sport in the world. Here we showcase one of their superfans, and the following excerpt shows his passion for the Argentina national team.

I've been watching the Argentine national team since as long as I can remember. I'm not really sure when it started, it's just been a part of my life. Over the years, there have been some amazing players like Gabriel Batisuta and Juan Roman Riquelme. But none in my time have been nearly as amazing as Lionel Messi.

He made his Argentina debut when I was a teenager, and I've seen him progress from prodigy to superstar. But this was mostly on TV, until a few years ago when I had the privilege of watching him play for Argentina in a match against Brazil, their biggest rivals.

It was a thrilling game in which Brazil took the lead, but Messi scored twice to make it 2-1 before the half. In the second half, Oscar and Hulk scored for Brazil to make it 3-2 and we were dejected. But Federico Fernandez scored off a corner and made it 3-3. With only 5 minutes remaining, Messi got the ball near the halfway line, way out near the touchline. He dribbled into a shooting position, from beyond the box, and hit a sizzling shot into the top corner. 4-3, and a hat trick. We went crazy - and felt like we witnessed history.
