Now they have to face Croatia, though, who are a dangerous opponent despite their own middling results so far. They can take first place in the group away from Spain with a win, and Croatia very, very much want that win.

Of course, a draw suits both teams just as well -- Spain keep first place, and Croatia make sure that the Czech Republic have no way to catch them if they beat Turkey. That would be unfortunate for fans to see, but that sort of pragmatism does often appear at this stage of a major tournament. Given the skill of both teams, though, we should still get an entertaining match no matter the outcome, and that’s always a treat.
