The United States men’s national team is in trouble. They’ll expect to beat CONCACAF rivals Costa Rica on Tuesday, but they can’t afford a slip-up. If they lose to the Ticos, they’ll be eliminated from Copa America before they even play their final group stage game.

The USMNT needs a victory on Tuesday.
Jurgen Klinsmann’s team didn’t exactly embarrass themselves in their opener against Colombia, but they did lose 2-0. They were put into a bit of a tough spot by Costa Rica and Paraguay drawing too, eliminating any chance that they could lose to the Ticos, then sneak into the quarterfinal. But that draw will be a benefit to them if they win on Tuesday -- if Colombia don’t lose to Paraguay, the US would have an opportunity to advance with a win over Costa Rica, then a draw in their last match.
In Tuesday’s night cap, Colombia will be expected to win again, but they’re facing a test. Paraguay were much better than Costa Rica in the first half of their opener, but slowed down in oppressive heat. In much more reasonable weather conditions, they’ll be able to run with Los Cafeteros all game.
