Leicester City shocked everyone by winning the Premier League last season, and that accomplishment has landed them a spot in the Premier League’s kickoff event, the Community Shield. They’ll face off against Manchester United, the FA Cup winners, at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
Manchester United vs. Leicester City 2016 live stream: Time, TV schedule and how to watch the Community Shield online
English soccer’s greatest ever underdog champion starts their season against Jose Mourinho’s new team.
The match kicks off at 11 a.m. ET, and you can catch it on TV on Fox Sports 1. The game is also streaming online on both Fox Sports Go and Fox Soccer 2 Go.
It’s been a summer of massive change for United, who changed managers. Winning the FA Cup couldn’t save Louis van Gaal, who was sacked and replaced with former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho. It’s been rough sailing for the Red Devils since Alex Ferguson retired, but they’ll be hoping Mourinho can return them to glory -- he’s won the Champions League twice and captured league titles in four countries.
Leicester’s offseason has mostly consisted of speculation about whether or not they can keep their star players. N’Golo Kante has departed, but Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez are still around. They’re expected to play some part on Sunday. Vardy recently signed a new contract, but no one knows if Mahrez will still be a Leicester player in a month.
Key player -- Riyad Mahrez
And the reason no one knows if he'll be a Leicester player is because he's highly coveted. Mahrez singlehandedly dominated games on a few occasions last season, finishing with 17 goals and 11 assists -- top five in both categories. Manchester United will have their hands full trying to contain him as he cuts inside from the right wing.
Key matchup -- Central midfield
Leicester City often played with two central midfielders against three last season, but rarely looked overmatched because Kante covered the ground of two players. Leicester has a slew of solid midfielders on the squad, but there's no such thing as a direct replacement. United are trying to sort out their midfield too, with a new manager showing up and Juventus superstar Paul Pogba rumored to be arriving soon. Who has the advantage in the center is anyone's guess.
