Colombia’s road through CONMEBOL qualifying for the 2018 World Cup hasn’t been easy, but they’re in control of their own destiny right now. They’re facing a tough team in Paraguay on Thursday, though, and that’s going to put a lot of pressure on this match for them to perform at a very high level.

Colombia are sitting on 26 points in qualifying with two matches to go. They’re well outside of first place — that honor goes to Brazil’s 37 points and already-secured qualification — but a win in this match could, depending on other results, punch their ticket to the World Cup in Russia next summer. A shock, upset win here — and Colombia have fallen prey to a few of those in qualifying so far — and Paraguay will have a very real chance of at least making the qualifying playoff against New Zealand for one of two final places in the tournament. They’ll still need another win and some help with other results to give themselves a chance — but Paraguay still have that chance, just as long as they win.
