Colombia’s road through CONMEBOL qualifying for the 2018 World Cup hasn’t been easy, but they’re in control of their own destiny right now. They’re facing a tough team in Paraguay on Thursday, though, and that’s going to put a lot of pressure on this match for them to perform at a very high level.
Colombia vs. Paraguay 2017 live stream: Start time, TV channel, and how to watch World Cup qualifier online
Colombia are in the drivers’ seat to qualify for the World Cup, but Paraguay can give themselves a chance with an upset win.

Colombia are sitting on 26 points in qualifying with two matches to go. They’re well outside of first place — that honor goes to Brazil’s 37 points and already-secured qualification — but a win in this match could, depending on other results, punch their ticket to the World Cup in Russia next summer. A win here paired with losses for Peru, Argentina, or Chile would give Colombia the spot they so dearly desire in the world’s biggest tournament in the sport.
But Paraguay are still fighting for their own World Cup lives, as their 21 points has them outside the qualifying places but still sitting with some small chance of making it. A shock, upset win here — and Colombia have fallen prey to a few of those in qualifying so far — and Paraguay will have a very real chance of at least making the qualifying playoff against New Zealand for one of two final places in the tournament. They’ll still need another win and some help with other results to give themselves a chance — but Paraguay still have that chance, just as long as they win.
