Despite winning the last two Copa America tournaments and being impressive in the 2014 World Cup, Chile might be watching the 2018 World Cup at home instead of fighting their way through Russia. They’re outside of the qualifying places in CONMEBOL with just two matches to go, but a win over Ecuador can put them back into contention on Thursday night.
Chile vs. Ecuador 2017 live stream: Start time, TV channel, and how to watch online
Chile are on the outside looking in for World Cup qualification, but they can put themselves back in the race with a win.

Chile are in this position thanks to losing their last two qualifying matches and three of their last four, their second such run in this qualifying cycle. It’s been tough sledding for Chile thanks to injuries and poor form from key players. But they’re not hopeless yet — they’re just one point behind the duo of Peru and Argentina, who are playing each other on Thursday, and a win would see them move ahead of the loser of that tilt, or even ahead of both if those teams draw.
Of course, Ecuador already own one win over Chile in CONMEBOL qualifying this cycle, beating them 3-0 in Ecuador a year ago, and they’re not completely out of the qualifying hunt, either. They’re in dire straits with just 20 points, to be sure, but a win here and a lot of help with other results can give them a chance. But Chile are in the better position of the two, and they’ll be eager to use their home field advantage to turn around their poor form and put themselves back in the qualifying picture.
