The first goal could be decisive in this winner-take-all clash.

One last spot in the 2018 World Cup is up for grabs for a European nation, and both Denmark and the Republic of Ireland are hoping it will be theirs. The two countries played each other to a scoreless draw in the first leg of this tie in Denmark, and Ireland will be hoping that the home-field advantage of Dublin in this second leg will be the decisive factor.

World Cup qualification has certainly seen its share of drama over the past year, with numerous big and surprising countries failing to qualify. While neither of these teams would fall under that category — they have a combined total of seven appearances between them — there have been high expectations on this qualifying cycle from fans of both Denmark and Ireland from the get-go. Failing to qualify wouldn’t be the shocking upset it would be for some countries, but it would be an unfortunate way for their qualifying run to end.

Both Denmark and Ireland can be very entertaining on their day, though they could be forgiven for playing conservatively in the first leg. With so little room for error, neither team wanted to leave themselves exposed to danger, and they played accordingly. But with no time left, we should see both teams open up a bit, and with the skill Ireland and Denmark have, that could make for a fun, fun match.
