Real Madrid need to get their momentum moving in the right direction again with a win.
And given Real Madrid’s shaky form of late, getting the result they need — at least a draw — is not the guarantee that it should be. They looked lost at sea in two losses just before the international break, and were flat and unconvincing in a Madrid Derby showing this weekend against Atletico Madrid. Even against a “lowly” opponent like APOEL, Real are going to need to be better than that to make sure they get what they want, but the Cyprian team has shown over and over again that they can step up to the challenge.
Real Madrid have a similar injury list to what they’ve been dealing with for most of the season: Gareth Bale, Keylor Navas, and Mateo Kovacic are all out. Problematically, though, so is Sergio Ramos. The linchpin of Real Madrid’s sometimes-shaky defense, Madrid fans will be glad that they’re not facing a more potent attack without him.
