The Champions League group stage is nearly done, and so far Manchester United have beaten every team that has stepped up to them. With two matches to go in the group, they need just one single point to advance to the knockout rounds, and they’ll be hoping to do at least that much against FC Basel in Switzerland.
Manchester United vs. FC Basel 2017 live stream: Time, TV channel, and how to watch Champions League online
Manchester United are just one point away from a return to the Champions League knockout rounds.
Manchester’s return to glory has been a quick process under Jose Mourinho, dominating an admittedly simple group in the Champions League and sitting in second place in the Premier League. Not everything has gone to plan — they had a pretty long lull of disappointing results recently — but they’re still one of the better-performing teams in Europe right now.
They’ll be a massive challenge for FC Basel to take on right now, but their own Champions League hopes are hanging on a string. They’re in second place in their group, but even on points with CSKA Moscow, meaning they can’t afford to drop points right now. Any slips now may keep them from making the knockout rounds, while will be unfortunate for their hopes.
FC Basel’s attack will be without Ricky van Wolfswinkel and his team-leading eight goals across all competitions, though they’ll be hoping that Dimitri Oberlin can continue to fill in magnificently spearheading an effective counter-attack. Manchester United will be facing that potent counter without the services of two key defenders in Eric Bailly and Phil Jones. Marcos Rojo has done well since his return, but Mourinho would certainly prefer to have his full depth of options available to him in this match.
