The World Cup qualification process is in its final stage, with playoff matches winnowing down the remaining teams to the few remaining open spots in the tournament in Russia next summer.

One of the more interesting matchups in UEFA during these playoffs is Croatia against Greece, with both teams scrambling to get to the top competition in the sport.

Croatia has missed the World Cup only once since becoming a nation of their own, and while they’re not quite at the glorious level of the 1998 World Cup squad that finished in third place, many feel that this could be the best Croatia team since then. Still, they’ll be eager to make the World Cup for the fourth time in their history — and the fourth time in seven World Cup cycles — and with their hard-nosed, grind-out style of play, they’re not going to be an easy matchup for a Croatia team that wants to get more of a flow going in their play.

It’s an interesting tactical matchup, and whoever comes away with a lead in the first leg of this tie in Croatia will hold a major advantage going into the second leg next week.
