The Champions League did not go to plan for Borussia Dortmund this season, sitting a very distant third in Group H entering the final matchday and being long eliminated from contention for a knockout round spot. In order to even guarantee themselves a spot in the Europa League knockout rounds, they have a tall order at hand — beat Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid vs. Borussia Dortmund 2017 live stream: Time, TV schedule, and how to watch Champions League online
Borussia Dortmund need points to make sure they reach the Europa League.
That’s a huge order, but it has to be done to make sure Dortmund advance. They’re even on points with APOEL, and one the shocking chance that the Cypran team beats Tottenham Hotspur, they need to stay even in order to advance. They have a huge task to do so, because even with Real Madrid’s form floundering a bit of late, Dortmund’s own form has been ice cold, losing four of their last eight games, with only one win in that span.
Making things more difficult is that Borussia Dortmund are badly shorthanded thanks to injuries — Maximilian Philipp, Gonzalo Castro, Mario Götze, Łukasz Piszczek, Erik Durm, and Sebastian Rode are all out, while Jeremy Toljan is suspended. Real Madrid are only missing one starter on Wednesday in the form of the suspended Dani Carvajal, giving them a huge advantage in fitness and quality.
