The Champions League is finally back, and with it comes a matchup that Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel has to feel good about. While Benfica are certainly a good side and deserve to be in the round of 16 with Dortmund, they’re also unquestionably one of the weakest sides in the round.

BVB are happy with their draw, but still need a good result from a tricky first leg.
Of course, they’re still due respect, especially as the home team in this first leg. It’s not going to be an easy thing to soundly defeat Benfica at the Estadio da Luz — they’re one of the better teams at home in Europe, and while Dortmund are easily the more talented team, Rui Vitoria knows how to get the most from his squad and frustrate his opponents as much as possible.
This promises to be an excellent match, with Dortmund looking to establish an advantage in the tie and Benfica hoping to find any opening they can to create an upset. It’s going to be an exciting 90 minutes, with two good teams battering away at each other, looking to create and exploit any advantages they can over one another. Just because one team is clearly better doesn’t mean a match is one-sided, and if anything that gulf in quality might actually make this match better for how it looks like it’s going to play out.
