Romelu Lukaku has had an excellent season for Everton, and he had his best game of the campaign on Saturday in his team’s 6-3 victory over AFC Bournemouth.

The Toffees’ striker found the back of the net four times, catapulting him to the top of the Premier League scoring charts. He now has 16 goals, one more than Diego Costa and Alexis Sanchez.

His first goal was a spectacular finish, and it came just one minute into the game:

The goal total is impressive by itself, but more impressive in the context of his entire performance. He put Tyrone Mings in a blender to set up Everton’s second, then scored their third on the half-hour mark, which should have sealed the result.

Bournemouth mounted a late comeback, though, scoring twice to pull the score back to 3-2 on the 70th minute. At that point, Everton kicked things back into high gear again and put Bournemouth away for good with two more goals. Things got silly after that, with each team scoring once more. But it was effectively over when Lukaku netted his third and fourth in quick succession.

While Lukaku still might not be as consistent as the world’s truly world-class strikers, he’s completely unplayable on his day. He’s had more good days than bad ones this season, and this was his best. And with 17 goals in 25 games across all competitions, he’s working on the best season of his career.
