Can either Liverpool or Manchester City open up a gap in the Premier League’s top four race?

Manchester City and Liverpool are separated by just one point in what might be the most competitive race for top four ever, but one of them can separate from the challenging pack with a victory on Sunday.

Both teams have had roller-coaster seasons, and that doesn’t look like it’s going to change at any point. City had rattled off four straight Premier League wins in February, but their March has featured an embarrassing Champions League exit and a goalless draw against Stoke. Liverpool has lost to Hull City and Leicester City in poor performances, but also owns impressive wins over Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, two of their rivals for a Champions League place.

City sits in third place on 56 points with a game in hand on Liverpool, who is fourth with 55 points. But with Arsenal losing two in a row — and four of their last five — the winning team could go eight or nine points clear of the Gunners and have a major leg-up going into the final 10 games of the season.

Liverpool are still missing Danny Ings with a long-term injury, while Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge have joined him on the training table. Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi have minor problems, and will be match-day decisions. Manchester City has two long-term absentees, Ilkay Gündogan and Gabriel Jesus.
