France are building up a solid lead atop Group A in the UEFA’s qualifying efforts for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and they’ll be hoping to add to that lead on Saturday. With a trip to Luxembourg on the cards, they’ll be hopeful of getting three points to put them in a commanding position in their group.

France will be looking to extend their lead atop their World Cup qualifying group with a win over the last-place team.

History is certainly on France’s side in this match — they’ve won 13 straight competitive matches against Luxembourg, and you have to go back more than 100 years to find the last time Luxembourg beat France, in a friendly way back in 1914. In fact, it’s been nearly 40 years since Luxembourg have scored on France at all, their last goal coming in a 3-1 loss on home soil in 1978 during European Championship qualifying.
Suffice it to say, this is a tremendously uphill battle for Luxembourg, especially with the one qualifying point they’ve won so far coming against a fellow minnow in Belarus. France are without some of their best players, most notably the injured Paul Pogba, but as one of the best teams in Europe, they should still be more than capable of beating Luxembourg with ease.
