Tottenham Hotspur need to keep the wolves at bay with a win at Burnely.

As the Premier League comes back from the international break, Tottenham Hotspur are still trying to find some way back into the title hunt despite Chelsea pulling away at ten points clear atop the table. They have two excellent teams snapping at their heels in the table, though, so first and foremost they need to worry about beating Burnely this weekend to make sure they stay in second place.

Burnley haven’t won a match in two months, the end of a good run of form in January that saw them win four games our of five in all competitions. Since then, Burnley have lost four and drawn three, a run of form that’s seen them slip down to 13th in the table and out of any real hope of sniping a Europa League spot.

Tottenham, on the other hand, have won four straight in all competitions, a strong run that’s seen them climb back into second place, though with only a two-point cushion over Manchester City and three over Liverpool. They’ve been in good form even with their injuries, and they should have what it takes to beat Burnley easily — but if they start looking too far ahead, Burnely are still good enough to trip them up, and that could make Spurs’ second place standing disappear in a hurry.

Tottenham Hotspur will still be without top striker Harry Kane as he recovers from an ankle injury, but there’s a chance, albeit a slim one, that left back Danny Rose and attacker Erik Lamela can be available this weekend. Scott Arfield should return for Burnley, but they’re still going to be missing Johann Gudmundsson and Dean Marney with their respective knee injuries.
