Madrid police have broken up a gathering of Leicester City fans in the city’s central square ahead of their UEFA Champions League match against Atlético Madrid. Leicester fans were using flares, fireworks, and smoke devices before police moved in on them, but there are no reports of fighting or other violence.

The clash comes after eight Leicester fans were controversially arrested on Tuesday night.

Both the fans’ behavior and the police tactics used might have been influenced by Tuesday night’s incidents in which eight Leicester supporters were arrested for causing disruptions. As is usually the case with incidents like these, there were two sides to the story — Madrid police say that six officers were attacked, while BBC reporter Phil Mackie says that there were unprovoked attacks by officers on civilians.
