If you missed El Clásico this weekend, you missed the best game of the season. Barcelona beat Real Madrid 3-2, thanks to some late heroics by Lionel Messi.
Real Madrid vs. Barcelona: Everything that happened in El Clásico
Need to catch up on Sunday’s big game? Here’s all the news, highlights, and analysis you need.

Madrid probably should have known it would be Messi to break their hearts. He scored the opening goal, then a dramatic game-winner with the last kick of the ball. He did the coldest, rudest celebration ever. And with his two goals, Messi passed Alfredo Di Stefano for most goals scored in El Clásico. It was a reminder that Di Stefano, not Pele or Maradona, is the legendary player Messi is most comparable to.
The loss was a big blow to Real Madrid, and the worst part was they did it to themselves. After the game, Zinedine Zidane admitted his team pushed hard for a winner instead of trying to get a point while down to 10 men. If Madrid loses La Liga, it’ll be Zidane’s fault.
Real Madrid fans have reacted to the result by calling for an end to the BBC forward line in favor of fresh ideas. Meanwhile, Barca fans want to make sure you don’t overlook the game’s forgotten hero, goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Goal of the day
What else but Messi’s winner, which was his 500th goal in a Barcelona shirt.
