Both Manchester United and Swansea really want a win here, but for very different reasons.

Manchester United suffered a bit of a setback to their goals at midweek, sitting through a goalless draw against their rivals Manchester City instead of beating them to step into the top four in the Premier League. With Arsenal slowly starting to catch up to their fifth place standing, Jose Mourinho and company need to start piling on points again — but they’re facing a team in Swansea City who are in full-on desperation mode right now.

Swansea are sitting in the relegation zone, and they very, very much do not want to go back to the Championship any time soon. But to get out of it they need to start piling on points — they’re three points behind 17th-place Hull City in the last “safe” spot in the EPL, and even though they won their last match, Swansea still have a lot of work to do and need a big reversal in fortune if they’re going to find safety.

Manchester United are still very beat up, with Timothy Foso-Mensah joining the absentee list after suffering a dislocated shoulder. He joins a list that includes Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Juan Mata, Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, and James Wilson — quite a large group and one that’s depleted Manchester’s attack and defense alike in a bad way.

Swansea City aren’t much better off, with Angel Rangel, Nate Dyer, and Wayne Routledge all out, and the trio of Leroy Fer, Marcus Olsson, and Jack Cork in varying degrees of doubt with different leg injuries. Swansea don’t have the depth to deal with that many injuries, which will seriously hurt their chances of creating an upset in this match.
